Ebay Affiliate Program
August 19th, 2006 at 09:17 pm by ashok in Affiliate MarketingBefore acquisition by Ebay, Baazee.com was running a very good affiliate program, they were paying Rs. 40/- per confirmed signup. I also signedup as affiliate of Baazee.com. Before I could generate any leads. Baazee.com was merged with ebay, and they shifted their affiliate program to Commission Junction.
Ebay is running different affiliate program for their country specific sites. They have many country specific sites like ebay Australia (ebay.com.au), ebay Italy (ebay.it), ebay England (ebay.co.uk), ebay Canada (ebay.ca), ebay India (ebay.in) etc. Every program has different compensation structure. Like ebay USA pay $12 to $22 per Active Registered User plus they also pay 40% commission (of ebay commission) if referral sent by affiliate win the bid.
Whereas ebay India pay only $1.5 to $3 per Active Registered User and no commission on referral winning the bid.
Hence ebay affiliate program is not very attracive from Indian point of view whereas US and European affiliates claim that ebay is the best program in commission junction, and they are earning huge commission through ebay affiliate program. Also other than ebay India no other ebay Sites accept Indian affiliates to their affiliate program. Good point with ebay affiliate program is that other than banner and text links they also provide some good tools, like flexible destination tools and Editor Kit .
ebay india affiliate program was first program which I joined through CJ around april 2005 at that time they were paying 70cent per Active Registered User. I put their links and banners on my some good traffic websites and generated some leads, but in Feb 2006 ebay india changed their terms and also increased the commisson from 70 cent to $1.5. According to new terms A registration is considered active when the user places a bid or uses BIN to purchase an item on eBay within 30 days of their initial registration, whereas in previous terms commission was generated when user confirmed their registeration by clicking on the email he recieved. After the introduction of new terms I could not generate any commission, hence I lost my interest in this program, although I still think ebay India affiliate program can generate good revenue if it is promoted rightly either through PPC or by developing some product oriented site.

You think it’s worth it? Even 3$ with a conversation rate of 15% is bad IMO. If you have a site with heavy traffic (with good product orientation and all the blah), it’s not worth it. For gadgets , reviews and other tech based sites, IMO Chitika is the best.
ebay rejected me (even without reviewing my site) so I’m even more you-know-what.
Was it ebay.in or ebay.com which rejected you.
Regarding commission structure of ebay, definately it is not very lucrative. but their tools are definately very useful, flexible desination tool is best for ppc campaign and editor kit is best for promotion through site.
Chitika is good program, but I don’t think they accept Indian traffic. Check here http://chitika.com/blog/?p=17
Indian Traffic and Indian publishers are different. We CAN apply if we get traffic from the countries they mentioned.
What’s the kid and editor things that you mentioned? Never seen/used them before.
I applied to ebay (I think ebay.in only) via CJ and they rejected me.
If you get traffic from said countries then there is nothing like that, but if someone has only indian traffic then choice is limited.
