My First Experience With Affiliate Marketing
August 9th, 2006 at 06:30 pm by ashok in Affiliate MarketingIn the beginning of 2003, I was planning to start a website and searching some topic. Some of the topic which came in mind were listing of all schools of dehradun, online yellowpages of Dehradun and many other such topic. Finally In early june I decided to develop yellowpages of dehradun. My Friend Karuna Shanker was also with me in this project. Now our first job was to search a domain name for our project. Our first preference was doonyellowpages.com but that was not available at that time (although later we grabed that domain and it is still with us). So we check our next choice dehradunyellowpages.com it was available and we booked that on 27 June 2003. We seriously start developing this site on Aug 2003 and make it workable by Nov. Next 2-3 months we used to collecting and creating database. So my site become fully functional by early 2004.
In the early 2004, while surfing I used to find articles with title similar to how to earn money through your website. But I never give much attention to them and I used to ignore these articles, thinking that It is not suitable for my website or this is gimmick or this is scam or it is not possible. By that time my first website Dehradunyellowpages.com has started attracting some traffic through search engines and other sources. One day, probably march 2004, I visited this website http://www.supportmysite.com/ (site is now not active) and I first time read the complete article on how to earn money through website. I bookmarked this site it is still in my bookmark list. From that site I come to know about affiliate marketing and I realised that yes I can earn money through my website. That website definately contained some good information, But no real secret or forumla was given in that website. My next step was to search some good affilaite program for my site so I started searching affiliate program on google and yahoo. I signed up some affiliate program like http://www.jumpdates.com, indianfriendfinder.com etc. and put their banners and links on different pages of my sites and on emails which automatically generated while registering in my site. Jumpdates was paying 35cents per signup and indianfriendfinder was paying 10 cents per male signup and 25 cent per female signup. I generated some signup on both the sites but the frequency of generating signup was very less and soon I lost interest in both the programs. So I never reached their minimum payout and never get any money from them.
