PPC or Affiliate Program
December 2nd, 2006 at 11:04 am by ashok in Affiliate MarketingWhich one makes more money for you?
PPC ad network or Affiliate programs?
Generally it is very easy to earn money through PPC programs as you have to just put the code in your website at right place. But any experienced webmaster can tell earning potential of affiliate programs are much more than PPC programs. Although PPC progams has it own advantage, you don’t have to do any research any preselling, it is compratively very easy to generate money through these programs.
But it is also true that, PPC ad network only cover your hosting charges plus some extra cash for pocket money whereas earning potential of affiliate programs are great if you know how to promote the affiliate program. Earning money from affiliate marketing is not that you put the banner or text link on your blog or website and money will start pouring.
Affiliate marketing require continous research to find good program. According to my experience you need to experiment with many programs, spend your money and time then only you will find the gold which will earn you fortune. And once you find a good program, which convert, you can not only recover your all money which you spent to find the program, you can make great amount of money through that program.

Clickbank
October 14th, 2006 at 08:47 pm by ashok in Affiliate MarketingClickbank is one of my favorite network because it is very easy to use. If you want to promote a product just signup and choose the product and start promoting. No hassels of approving application in network and merchants.
From merchant point of views also it is very easy to use. If you want to sell any product their setup fee is only $50, and you will get thousands of affiliate who will start promoting your product. Clickbank is used only to sell digital products i.e which can be sold online and where there is no need of shipping etc. Like ebook, softwares etc.
Presently there are more than 10,000 products available which an affiliate can choose and promote. Also commission given by merchants are very high in these type of products, commission ranges from 25% to 75%. Since creating a merchant account is very easy and their setup fee is low. Many of the products which are available are not quality products and which are very difficult to sell.
Choosing a right product out 10,000 products is not easy job as 90% of the products are non saleable. Also reversal rates are very high in these type of products, if you received any commission in your account by selling a product it is not sure you will get commission because if customer is unsatisfied with the product he may claim chargeback, and clickbank is very liberal in giving chargeback. There are some points through which we can tell which product one should choose to promote. I will write about those points in my coming articles.
Recently a new network paydotcom.com is launched, which work almost in the same way as clickbank but did not charge any setup fee from merchant. I think not charging money from merchant for setting up merchant account is not good step as many non serious people join the network as merchant and try to sell low quality products.

Projet Rover
September 30th, 2006 at 07:53 pm by ashok in Affiliate MarketingRecently I received few emails from ebay, about their new tracking infrastructe. They termed this as project rover. Accroding to their email.
Project Rover is eBay’s new HTML tracking methodology that has been built in coordination with Commission Junction. Utilizing a single redirect on an eBay hosted domain (http://rover.ebay.com), Rover will decrease the number of redirects a user must follow and allow for a more robust and efficient affiliate program.
All affiliates have to use new rover link by November 15, 2006. After that old link will cease to function.
Those who are big affiliates of ebay and using their links in many pages and sites, it may be really a tedious job for them. Although I am also using their links on my site. But since I always use different file for affiliate links and include that file where ever want to display the link. I have to modify only one page.
Also those who are using Editor Kit, Product Kit, RSS Feed Generator or the Rest API GetSearchResults call need not to modify their code.
Ebays says the benefits of new link structures are :
- Reduced Ad / Cookie Blocking: Rover decreases the potential for Ad / Cookie Blocking by utilizing an eBay hosted domain.
- Limited Redirects: Rover will use fewer redirects reducing the risk of user drop off and improving speed and performance.
- Global Infrastructure Improvements: Rover will enable eBay and Commission Junction to develop increased global tracking capabilities, allowing for more seamless international affiliate promotions.

Affiliate Cookie
August 30th, 2006 at 02:54 pm by ashok in Affiliate MarketingRecently in digital point forum. I came accross this thread about cookies. A user was asking few questions about affiliate cookies. I was first to answer his queries, and also received rep for my answer. This prompt me to write an article on affiliate cookies.
There are many misconception about cookies are in circulation. Many people belives that cookies are like worm or viruses, some treat them as spyware etc. However cookies are important part of web development and many websites can not function properly without cookie support.
Affiliate marketing has become one of the important form of intenet marketing and almost every merchant are using affiliate marketing to market their products, cookies also play important role in affiliate marketing. All affiliate networks and merchant use cookies to track the sales or lead generated by affiliates.
Whenever I join any affiliate program one of the thing which I look is cookie duration, i.e. for how much time cookie will remain in the visitor browser the longer is better. When a user click the affiliate URL a cookie is dropped in the visitor computer this cookie remain in his computer for a pre define period after that period cookie expired. If visitor does not purchase the product on first visit but purchase the product after revisitng the site before expiring the cookie, affiliate get the commission. So longer the cookie duration, it is better for affiliate.
Suppose you are promoting a program with cookie duration of 90 days. if you sent 100 visitors to merchant site and generated 1 sale. There are chance that you may get some more sale because of the cookie dropped in the visitors browser. Even if you stopped promoting merchant you may get some sales because of cookies. Cookies are like pipline for affiliates, the more cookies you dropped there are more sales for you in pipeline.
Cookies is the only method through which network or merchant track sales. There are some users around 1% does not enable cookie, therefore sale generated by these visitors are not tracked and affiliates did not get commission also some people have habits of deleting cookies because of some misconception this also result in sales not tracked and affiliate failed to get commission, however these number are very less.
Shareasale network gives a special return day analysis tool, this tool tells how much sales are generated on same day and how much sale are generated by returning visitors.

Shareasale Affiliate Network
August 26th, 2006 at 10:25 am by ashok in Affiliate MarketingThere are many hundreds of affiliate network. I myself is member of around 6-7 affiliate network. But without doubt I can say that shareasale.com is the best among all. The mistake which many newbie affiliate marketers do is they join many affiliate networks and join many programs. This result into that they could not concentrate and failed to generate any sale, hence they become frustrated and left the affiliate marketing.
Although I am member of many networks but I regularly receive payment from only two networks CJ and shareasale. Shareasale has around 2000 merchants, and everymonth around 60 new merchant join shareasale. shareasale has far more cleaner interface then other network and also provides many features which is accessible with one click.
I visit many affiliate forums and read complaints abouts affiliate network ranging from payment to tracking problem. But I never remember that I read any complaint about shareasale.com
Recently AffiliateFairPlay.com presented Brian Littleton, Founder and CEO of shareasale.com AffiliateFairPlay Fair Practice Award.
One of the main reason why affiliate community like shareasale is that it provide merchant datafeed free, whereas in another networks affiliate have to pay to get datafeed.
Another thing which I like about shareasale.com is that, its CEO Brian and many other senior member are regular member of many affiliate forums like ewealth.com, abestweb.com etc. They resolve all queries on the forum quickly. Abestweb.com is also official forum of shareasale.com.
Shareasale is also very prompt in payment. They sent their cheque every month on 20th of previous month earning provided earning is more than $50. Unlike many other network where network pay after receiving the payment from merchant and if merchant refused to pay, network did not take any guarantee, shareasale.com always keep the money in escrow, and never allows this thing to happen.
So if you are starting your affiliate marketing and not join shareasalec.com so far. I recommend you to join it now.
