Yesterday I received an email from Ashish, telling about blogg-buzz. He told that this site is similar in working like digg, but trageted for small bloggers who do not get a chance to make their story at the home page of digg.

I checked it, it is very much similar in functioning as that of digg. It is started by Johntp and Shivranajan. Containing some other cool feautures like trackback also it is exclusively for bloggers.

The USP they claim is that bloggers post will not compete with news sites like CNN or BBC as blogg-buzz is exclusively for bloggers.

Let’s see how it goes. I have joined their community. Have you joined yet?

Few days ago Payperpost had announced that they are going to acquire select Performancing assets. The thing on which PPP eyeing was Performancing’s metrics tracking technology , which can provide real data about a blogger’s traffic and what’s being clicked on their blog.

Now hardly one week passed Payperpost has backed out from the deal. According the Clickz the reason which is being speculated for this backout is that Performancing has chosen to no longer provide the free blog metrics service

Recently i came to know from Ashish blog that, there is a vulnerability in wordpress. And the solution was to change the templates.php file. I changed that file soon.

Now I found through digg that new version of wordpress Wordpress 2.0.6 has been released.Which contain security fixes and also some new features.

It is recommended to everyone who use wordpress that they download the latest stable version and upgrade their blog software. You can download the latest version here.

How you deal with comment spam?

Is Akismet working fine for you?

When I started blogging around four month back, I started getting comment spam, before genuine comment. Spammers are always ahead of actual visitors they found new blogs before other discover it.

I asked for some solution it in digit forum from other member, some of them are experienced blogger.

First I installed Spam Karma 2 plugin, but I did not like its working as visitor did not return to blog after posting, later I installed Akismet.

Initially Akismet worked fine, but now a days it appears they are catching some genuine comments also.

After installing it, after few days I checked what comments are caught by them. I found many spam comments thought it is working fine, never checked after that for three months what Akismet is doing.

Few days earlier, I again checked the spam caught by Akismet. I was surprised to find that Akismet is also catching legitimate comment and flagging them as spam.

Now I check every day spam caught by akismet to find legitimate comment. It appears instead of making job easy it is making my job hard.

Now thinking for some another solution, can someone suggest what should I do?

Indian blogging is still in nascent stage with only14% of netizens are blogging regularly. This is the finding of Blogging India: An MSN and Windows Live Report released on monday.

Some other notable finding of the reports are :

  • 39% of netizens are aware of blogs.
    A good number I suppose.

  • 76% of bloggers are male, compare to 24% female.
I think 24% is not bad figure. It appears they will catch the male bloggers soon.

  • 54% of bloggers are between the age group of 25 to 34 and 32% under 25.
Ya, I myself read many blogs written by teenagers, and bloggers in early tweenties. And they have good grasp on the topic they write.

  • 32% people read technology blog followed by 24% reading news and education.
Because technology is taste of youth.

  • 90% bloggers spend more than 5 hours per week to read and updating blog.

I think many bloggers spend more than 5 hours daily on reading and updating blog, and some even spend 5 hours to write an article.

Are you using show top commentator plugin?

If not, then probably I may not be commenting in your blog.

I am a blogger and a webmaster and one of the thing which a webmaster love most is backlink. Backlink not only increase the search engine ranking it also send some traffic to website.

I always looks for the blog which uses show top commentator plugin and try to become one to get a place in the list. Although I also post on the blog which does not use this plugin, I am not so much frequent in commenting in these type of blogs, whereas my frequency of commenting in blog using top commentator is more.

Recently John whose blog I regularly visit and comments because he uses show top commentator plugin, reduced list of top commentators from 10 to 5 i.e. only top 5 commentators will be displayed. Since he already has many commentator in his blog I think it will be a difficult task for me to maintain my position in the top 5 list. So either my comment will increase or decrease depening upon whether I will be able to make my postion in the list.

Although old blog may discontinue using this, but for new blog top commentator is one of the thing which helps in generating comments in the blog.

If you are not using this plugin, you can download it from here.
