I my previous post I had written that, I will modify wp-rss2.php file to provide link of ebook to my RSS readers. But before modifing I thought I should look at feedburner for solution. I got the solution in feedburner, they provide a tool under optimize tab, called feedflare. Feedflare tool is used to provide links in rss feed. They have some ready made feedflare like email this, Add to del.icio.us, digg this, comment count etc. When we choose these feedflare they appear in the feed. There is also a facility to made custom feedflare. I used this service to create download link of ebook for my feed readers.

But there a slight problem occured, the best way to download ebook is right clicking the link and select save target as ( Internet explorer) or save link as (Firefox). Altough some download manager are configured to catch pdf link and instead of opening file they save it. But for those who do not use any download manager right clicking and saving is the best method specially for big pdf files. The link which was provided by feedflare was not good for right clicking as it was a redirected link, and as the ebook on SEO which I provided was around 2MB it was causing problem in downloading, therefore I modified the feedflare that instead of direct downloading the ebook, visitors are first directed to a page from where they could download the ebook. But since feedflare change do not propagate in real time, my modification is not reflected in RSS feed, hence I changed the SEO book with affiliate marketing ebook which is of only around 150KB. Those who will download the ebook from my feed will get ebook on affiliate marketing and when my new changes will propogated fully you can download ebook on SEO also.

In my previous post I had written that I will give ebooks on internet marketing and traffic generation to my RSS subscribers. I was planning to to do this through feedvertising plugin, I applied for feedvertising but they did not accept my blog as it is still in its infancy. I was not planning to sell advertisement in my RSS feed, but wanted to use this service to show my own links. Since they did not accept me therefore I searched google for any other plguin but did not find any which could solve my problem. So I decided to develop solution myself.

I knew that I have to modify the file which generate feed in XML format, as I had once developed RSS feed generation program around two year back for my website dehradunyellowpages.com, the feed of articles of dehradunyellowpages.com are available at http://www.dehradunyellowpages.com/articles/dypfeed.php, at that time I was not aware of blogging very much and I had created inhouse solution for my site.

After little study of wordpress files I find out that I have to modify wp-rss2.php file to put my links in RSS feed.

I hope that in next couple of days, I will be able to serve ebook links in my RSS feed. So if you have still not subscribed my RSS feed, you can subscribe here

Today three months has been completed for my blog. I started blogging from Aug 8, 2006. When I look back and see my progress, I think it is not bad. I have written 35 posts and no. of comments received are 31. Although comments are less, because I know many of my visitors are lurker and I generally do not ask question or prompt visitors to write comment, as suggessted by many professional bloggers. Many of my posts are generally of news type, which does not warrant any comment.

November Stats

When I look to statisitics, I found that I am continuously receiving good traffic from different sources like digg, technorati, forums, other blogs and search engines. This month in Nov. my average traffic is around 156 visitors per day, whereas previous month it was 135. So there is a continious progress in traffic.

I have not yet been assigned any PR by google, but google is very generous in sending traffic to my blog. I am regularly receiving good traffic from google for many keywords, followed by msn which is also sending some traffic. Although there is no traffic from yahoo to my blog but I hope yahoo will soon start sending me some traffic.

If you are using wordpress blog and have good readership. You can now add forum to your blog. Today while reading this article in problogger.net I found that bbPress 0.72 has been launched. Some of the cool features of bbpress are:

  • Fast and Light: nothing you don’t need.
  • Built in spam protection by Akismet.
  • Really simple interface: we want people using our software to forget that they’re using it.
  • Complete integration with WordPress.
  • Both the look and the functionality are highly customizable.
  • RSS feeds for everything.

So if you have good readership and you receive lots of comments in you blog, then I suppose this is the right time to start a forum along with your blog.

Since I find Stumbleupon, I become a fan of this site as this is a great source of free traffic. Since begining when I found this site, I wanted that we should be able to add thumbup icon to our blog, so that visitors could thumbup our article through our blog. Today while reading liewcf blog, I found that Stumbleupon has announced the facility to Integrate StumbleUpon with our Blog. Which allows the visitors to submit new articles directly from the page they are viewing.

It was a very much overdue feature, I am sure many bloggers was waiting for this feature since long. It is really surprising why stumbleupon took so much time to release this feature, whereas almost all communities sites allow this features to integrate article from blog.

If you are already using digg, or del.icio.us icon in you blog then it will not be difficult for you to add stubmleupon in your blog. Add following line in your page where you want to display stumbleupon icon. Following is the code for wordpress blogs which you use to integrate stumbleupon in your blog.

<a href=”http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=<?php the_permalink(); ?>&title=<?php the_title(); ?>”><img src=http://www.stumbleupon.com/images/thumbup.gif border=0> Stumble it!</a>

If you like this article then don’t forget to Stumble it!
