How you deal with comment spam?

Is Akismet working fine for you?

When I started blogging around four month back, I started getting comment spam, before genuine comment. Spammers are always ahead of actual visitors they found new blogs before other discover it.

I asked for some solution it in digit forum from other member, some of them are experienced blogger.

First I installed Spam Karma 2 plugin, but I did not like its working as visitor did not return to blog after posting, later I installed Akismet.

Initially Akismet worked fine, but now a days it appears they are catching some genuine comments also.

After installing it, after few days I checked what comments are caught by them. I found many spam comments thought it is working fine, never checked after that for three months what Akismet is doing.

Few days earlier, I again checked the spam caught by Akismet. I was surprised to find that Akismet is also catching legitimate comment and flagging them as spam.

Now I check every day spam caught by akismet to find legitimate comment. It appears instead of making job easy it is making my job hard.

Now thinking for some another solution, can someone suggest what should I do?

Recently I read an interesting post in Atul Dogra’s Blog on 5 Steps to Get Top 10 Website Search Engine Rank. He wrote following five points to get traffic for website.

1. Select right keyword for web SEO Optimization.
2. Optimize your website ranking factors.
3. Submit url to search engines directories.
4. Link Exchange and Manager.
5. Monitoring and ReOptimizing

No doubt choosing right keyword is very important for optimization. You can bring your site to top of search engine for any obscure keyword or long phrase for which there is no competition. The important thing is bringing site to top for competitive keyword.

If you bring at top your site for a keyword which is typed say around 10,000 times per day in search engine, then you may get good amount of traffic, however if you bring your site top for a keyword or phrase which only you type and which is specific to your site, then it is not something very great.

There are some onsite changes which one has to do in order to bring site to top, like keyword frequency, alt text, link text. But it should always be kept in mind that one should not overuse it. it may invite penalty also.

Regarding submit url to search engine, I don’t think it is of any use now. Whenever I launch a new site, I gave a backlink to it from my other sites and it get indexed in search engines within 2-3 days. However submission in directories may be useful, if the PR of directory is good.

About his fourth point of link exchange, I think search engine do not like it, if you use excessive link exchange you may get a penaly. Many people for this reason use three way exchange. I think search engine can even found this by updating their algorithm. One should always try to get natural link.

As for monitoring and reoptimizing, no doubt it is neccessary if you want good amount of search engine traffic.

But always remember, you can not build a business through search engine traffic only. Search engine can be a contributor but it should not be the only source of traffic and one should not depend on it heavily.

Today I was reading in Gobala’s blog his latest article. He has written about four method which he used to generate traffic.

1. PPC or Pay-Per-Click
2. Email Marketing
3. Blog, Tag, Ping
4. Writing and Publishing Articles

Out of the four methods, I only use PPC for internet marketing. Blog, Tag, Ping is generally for blogs only and it does not work for other type of sites.

Out of other two methods, which I am thinking since long to use, but could not, because writing articles I always used to found it difficult, but after started blogging I think I can use this mode also.

Email marketing is also a good method, but for email marketing, the important thing is list, that is to whom you have to send the email.

Many successful intenet marketer says the money is in the list, if you have list then you can earn good amount of earning through it.

Although I never seriously tried to create a list. But I am in list of many Internet marketers and observe that how they create list and their marketing method.

One of the method which many marketer use to create list is give a freebie as a bonus of signing generally an ebook. This I found is very effective method to create list.

The other important thing in email marketing is how honest you are, this make member of your list follower of your recommendations. If you promote crap and worthless thing in your list, many people will unsubscribe from the list or stop following your recommendations.

In next year one of my plan is creating a good list, are you also planning to create a list?

Which one makes more money for you?

PPC ad network or Affiliate programs?

Generally it is very easy to earn money through PPC programs as you have to just put the code in your website at right place. But any experienced webmaster can tell earning potential of affiliate programs are much more than PPC programs. Although PPC progams has it own advantage, you don’t have to do any research any preselling, it is compratively very easy to generate money through these programs.

But it is also true that, PPC ad network only cover your hosting charges plus some extra cash for pocket money whereas earning potential of affiliate programs are great if you know how to promote the affiliate program. Earning money from affiliate marketing is not that you put the banner or text link on your blog or website and money will start pouring.

Affiliate marketing require continous research to find good program. According to my experience you need to experiment with many programs, spend your money and time then only you will find the gold which will earn you fortune. And once you find a good program, which convert, you can not only recover your all money which you spent to find the program, you can make great amount of money through that program.
