Indibloggies, has started the nomination process for 2006 Indian blogger awards. Ok I am not asking to vote for me. Because I have not nominated my blog. I have voted for WATBlog. I voted for WATBlog because I found that blog very refreshing and informative. Many of my posts are inspired from WATBlog.

Youtube.com the popular video sharing site, which is now acquired by Google. Is planning to share revenue with its users. According to Chad Hurley, Youtube.com is planning to pay the users who upload videos on the site.

 

During his speech at World Economic Forum in Davos Mr. Hurley said that they are getting audience that is large enough to give them an opportunity to support and foster creativity through sharing revenue with their users.

 

This is really a great news for those who regularly upload videos on youtube. But the important thiing which is to be seen is that, it may result into the inflow of more useless videos on youtube as many people will upload just to earn some extra cash and many people will also try to find the way to earn money by spamming youtube.

In highly competitve ad network area, there is another new player advolcano.com. Although there is no dearth of opportunity for bloggers for to earn money from their blogs. Already there are many ad networks from google adsense to text link ads, which are major money maker for bloggers.

 

Altough every ad network has something uniques which make them popular, but I found that advolcano has some good features which make them apart. Some of the benefit which advolcano ad network provides are :

• Publisher can set their own price : This is really a great feature, because It will help those bloggers who get less advertiser, they can reduce their price and get advertisers.
• Publisher can set ad size: Another greate feature, no need to adjust your blog layout to adjust the ad, you can modify the ad to adjust according to your site.
• Payout terms: Advolcano pays 75% revenue to publisher, definately better than those who kept 50% revenue. I never found it comfortable to pay 50% revenue to ad network, hope this will prompt other network to reduce their share. Also payment is on net 15 basis, means less wait time for publisher to receive their check.
• Your can screen advertisers: Although not unique feature, almost all network allowed publisher to reject advertiser which they do not like.

 

Let’s see how it perform in highly competitive ad network industry.

Today in morning when I checked my email, I found that there was an email with subject FAILURE ALERT, saying that my site was down at 5.56am, when I checked other mails I found that there was another email with RECOVERY ALERT informing that site was recovered at 6.46 means downtime was of 50mins. I thought once in two three months these downtime is not uncommon.

But after 5 minute when I visited one of my site, I found mysql connect error, I shocked what the hell is this. Then I opened my this blog helloashok.com. It was also showing database error. I checked my another 3 -4 sites all were showing database error.

Initially I thought that some of the tables of my database has corrupted. I opened SQLyog tool which I use generally in place of phpmyadmin to access database, SQLyog connected smoothly with my database server and showed me all database, there was no error in database and all tables were fine.

I opened phpmyadmin via browser, but it was also refusing to connect saying incorrect userid of password. It was really a puzzling situation I was able to connect to my database server via SQLyog but not via phpmyadmin.

I login in to my control panel and tried to open phpmyadmin through it. Again it was refused with this error message: Error connecting to MySQL: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock’ (2). I thought ok, atleast I got an error message means half problem has been solved. Before that I was getting error message of access denied, which was not throwing any light in the problem.

So I just googled the error message, and found that I was not the only one who has faced this problem.

The reason of connecting through SQLyog and not through phpmyadmin was that SQLyog was connecting via TCP/IP where as phpmyadmin and my sites were connecting to database through socket.

I login to server and found that mysql.sock file were not present in directory /var/lib/mysql whereas it should be there.

The solution of this was simple i restarted my mysqld and refreshed my blog and vow it was open. Mysqld when restarted created the mysql.sock file and the problem rectified.

Some affiliate checks are small, amounting to nothing more than $25. My first cheque from Commssion Junction was only of $50. Whereas my first cheque from adbrite was only of around $27. So don’t expect that you will start earning huge money since begining.

 

Over time, these affiliate checks may build up to a really impressive amount. Remember that, making a fortune in affiliate marketing is not instant process. You should put in enough work and effort as well. You have to use your imagination to find more ways to attract more web traffic that can convert to sales for the merchant and profit for you as well.

 

How many affiliate checks do you want to receive? Most affiliate marketers will enthusiastically reply that they want to receive as many affiliate checks as possible. However, is it as easy as it sounds? The mistake which many marketers do is that they join many affiliate programs. Ok, the wait is over now, and Wordpress 2.1 ‘Ella’ has been released. But I am not going to upgrade it now. There were so many releases of wordpress this month. I don’t think it is good that you release new version after one week. First Wordpress 2.0.6 then 2.0.7 now Wordpress 2.1.

 

Wordpress team should learn something from Microsoft. Microsoft released new operating system Window Vista after six years. They released Win XP in 2001.
