Futurebazaar targets Rs. 300cr

Futurebazaar is getting around 40,000 visitors per day and out of that they claim that 1% convert i.e. place orders. It is a good ratio if they are generating this much sale from Indian traffic. Which is not considered good in International market for their buying potential.
Recently I had written an article on affiliate marketing in India, that affiliate marketing prospects are not very bright in india. I visited futurebazaar.com to check whether they have any affiliate program or not. I found that they have none. Still Indian sites do not take affiliate marketing very seriously whereas for american and european companies affiliate marketing is a major part of their online marketing strategy. One of the reason is that their are not many serious companies doing ecommerce in India, and generating crores of Rupees per year through their online ventures. Once there will be more companies and more competition we can see companies adpoting different marketing strategies.

I don’t agree that the prospects of Affiliate Marketing aren’t bright in India. Infact, there is an immense potential in this area as no big player (as you mentioned) is focussing on it yet. Without the affiliate channel, its next to impossible to get regularly good no. of visitors and have a good sales figures. What other business model is feasible?
Secondly, I don’t believe in the claims of the above said site to have 40,000 hits per day. Just a couple of days back there was an article about travel portals in the same newspaper, where portals like indiatimes and travelguru had good database and clients as they are focussing the international community whereas yatra.com was very modest in its visitor traffic and its database as per the report as it is focussing on the domestic market only. That clearly shows the difference and gives us a fair idea of the domestic market in India.
Alexa ranking of the abovesaid site is barely within one lac boundary at 90,671. Does it give any idea to us?
