What is spam
October 11th, 2006 at 10:01 pm by ashok in WebYesterday, I was facing some problem in networking in my computers. Since I have to send some files from my one PC to another PC. I thought, I should send these files through email to my other id and I will download that file from my inbox as I was able to connect one PC at a time through net. So I send my files as attachment from my domain based email to my rediffmail id. After that I connect my another PC and check my email. My email was not reached there. I thought some time email take longer time to reach, I will check later. I again checked after one hour but still email was not received there. Then I checked my my first id and found that email was bounced. I thought there must be some typo, when I wrote receipient address. When I checked “to” address, it was correct. Then I read the reason. I was shocked to find that my message was rejected because IP address of my web server was blocked by one anti spam look up site. Since that IP was assigned to me and all sites on that particular IP was mine. I thought how It could be possible. I further digged to find out the reason, why my IP is being blocked. On clicking spam evidence I found that one email which was generated from one of my site was flagged as spam by one member of my site.
My that particular site has around 25,000 members and my site regularly send emails to members of my site. My that email was totally legitimate as that member was subscribed to my site. And email also contains the method to unsubscribe from the list. But instead of unsubscribing that member thought it is better to flag this email as spam as it is more easy.
This is a problem which many legitmate site owner faced. People resgistered in the site or join the list after some time when they lose interest instead of unsubscribing they flag those email as spam.
This attitutde of people weakens the fight against spam because if they flag legitimate email also as spam, it become difficult to identify actual spam. Also if ISP receives false complaints about spam, they started paying less attention to spam complaints.

WordPress Trackback Spam!!!
I have installed plugins that prevent comment spams, but this won't prevent trackback to be blocked. I've been spam by many
MFA websites that most probably is from the same network with trackback, but they are not linking me on their website. May I
know how do they do it and how do I stop it? Without disabling trackback?
Thanks, and I'm using WordPress.
